The Austrian Audio OC16 Studio Set is a large diaphragm studio microphone.The OC16 is the new large-diaphragm microphone of the Open Condenser Series, featuring Open Acoustics technology. The transparent and natural sound of OC microphones is the result of the combination of the patented CKR capsule and the Open Acoustics design approach developed by Austrian Audio.The OC16 has an extremely robust build quality and is equipped with the CKR6 ceramic capsule, handcrafted in Vienna. Inspired by the sonic qualities of a much-loved legendary microphone, our engineers focused on technological progress and innovation when developing the CKR capsule. Newly available materials such as industrial ceramic are used. This highly insulating material has the same mass and acoustic characteristics as the brass originally used, but at the same time is much less prone to production errors and therefore more consistent in terms of manufacturing, longevity and product stability. Each of these handcrafted CKR capsules is tested and measured in-house before leaving the factory.Austrian Audio’s proprietary “Open Acoustics” technology eliminates acoustic interference, such as unwanted reflections and standing waves, inside the microphone. The result is the well-known Austrian Audio OC sound, open and natural. In addition to the CKR capsule and Open Acoustics technology, the OC16 microphone has other aspects and features such as a low-cut/high-pass filter at 40 Hz to eliminate the lowest interference frequencies or 160 Hz to neutralise the proximity effect, i.e. the bass boost that occurs when the microphone is placed very close to the sound source.The microphone’s flat design, combined with its low weight, allows for precise miking and alignment, even in hard-to-reach locations. The CKR capsule is suspended in the microphone at three elastic points. This minimises interference from structure-borne noise, allowing the microphone to be used without a suspension stand. Ideal for suspending the OC16 from a cable in front of a guitar amplifier.The OC16 can tolerate sound pressure levels of up to 148 dB SPL and can therefore be used without distortion even in front of very loud sound sources. Whether it’s horns, loud drums or directly on the guitar amplifier, the OC16 will always capture the signal cleanly.All of these aspects make the OC16 an extremely flexible all-rounder and allow it to be used on a wide variety of instruments: From drums to electric and acoustic guitars, pianos, wind and string instruments and vocals. In addition, the OC16 presents a perfect profile in the office: recording podcasts, live broadcasts, dubbing video content or even online conferences, all now created with the best intelligibility and speech quality. The highly accurate cardioid polar pattern effectively suppresses background noise, such as computer fan noise.The versatile OC16 microphone comes in a convenient soft case with an elastic spider suspension.
