The Radial PZ-DI is a unique direct box that is designed specifically for acoustic and orchestral instruments.Unlike most direct boxes, the PZ-DI allows you to match the input impedance of the source to optimize frequency response, dynamics and feel for a more musical result. The 3-position impedance adjustment switch is the focal point of the PZ-DI: The 1 meg ohm position provides the typical impedance available on most active DI boxes. The 10 meg ohm position is used to compensate for the harsh sound that usually emanates from piezo equipped instruments.In addition, a variable high-pass filter allows you to ‘sculpt’ the instrument by gently attenuating low frequencies, eliminating any unwanted resonance. You can, for example, keep the low end of the spectrum on a cello, but have this filter work to better suit a violin. On active instruments, such as acoustic guitars with a preamp, you can engage this filter for a smoother, more natural sound.To optimise signal handling and reduce distortion, the PZ-DI incorporates an innovative DC power supply that converts phantom power to provide more headroom. This provides a comfortable dynamic range for acoustic instruments. For high level sources, such as active bass or digital keyboards, simply activate the -15dB pad. The Radial PZ-DI also features a 180° polarity switch and a ground lift.
